Stress! WeÕve all experienced it, perhaps from different sources of stress or felt it in different ways. Regardless, stress is something we cannot truly escape. There are good stressors and bad stressors but our body cannot differentiate them and most can affect different regions of the body similarly.
Stress can affect our muscles by causing us to tighten up. Perhaps it changes your breathing pattern into shorter, shallower breaths. An increased heart rate is another common effect of stress on the cardiovascular system. And letÕs not forget the effect on the GI system with heartburn, acid reflux, nausea, stomach pains…etc.
One of the best ways to combat stress is to be mindful of the situation – this allows us to change some of our thought and behavioural patterns. Mindfulness exercises, deep breathing techniques, and reflection after encounters with stressful situations are very helpful in not only improving our reactions but also contributes to personal growth!
